Caregiving is both rewarding and demanding.  Hamline Midway Elders offers many services and referrals that may make it easier for family, friends, and neighbors to offer support to loved ones 62+.  Many of our services are without cost.  For example, staff can:

  • Attend care conferences in the home or transitional care unit, informing others of what in-home supports are available to elders
  • Advise caregivers by phone or in person about their options including:

- County-based financial support

- Professional nursing and aide homecare,

- Cleaning services

- Hospice care

- Reliable grocery delivery, pharmacy delivery, and lawn care

 

  • Provide funding for short-term respite care to give caregivers a break
  • Attend medical appointments with elders, acting as an advocate and note-taker
  • Provide in-home nurse visits to train caregivers in skills such as bed baths, medication monitoring, and more
  • Refer in-home counseling to support caregivers as they deal with great responsibility
  • Provide volunteers to provide rides and/or visits to care recipients
  • Refer sources of specialized medical equipment, amplified phones, home modification, or ramps
  • Provide the “5 Wishes” Health Care directive to support end-of-life planning
  • Provide information about disease-specific information and specialists
